About quarantine network system

  • Overview

    Staff and students of Soka University can connect their devices to the Internet via university wired/wireless LAN (Local Area Network). However, we have encountered problems that some PCs which were infected with viruses attacked other PCs on the network.

    To deal with this issue, we have implemented the quarantine system on our authentication network since 7th June 2007. If you would like to connect your device to the Internet via university LAN (both wired and wireless), it has to fulfill the 3 requirements listed below.

    • Latest Windows Update programs are installed
    • Antivirus software is installed
    • Virus definition file is up-to-date

    If you try to sign in with the PCs that do not fulfill these requirements, warning messages will show up, and you cannot connect your device to the Internet.

    We have to protect the important data for staff and students and enhance the security level of university LAN.

    We will appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

  • Requirements for using university LAN

    To connect your device to the internet via university LAN, you need one of the following anti-virus software applications installed on your device.

  • Network authentication

    After connecting your device to university LAN, user authentication will be required before you access a website.
    Please note that Internet connection is not allowed for the PCs with security issues.

  • Application for Smartphones and Tablet devices

    If you have Android or iOS on your device, you can connect it to university wireless LAN easily with the application below.

    You can use the same username and password as the ones for signing in to the portal site.
    (e.g. username: "e" + student number)

    Windows Vista and earlier versions are no longer supported.

    For an OS other than Windows, authentication works, but quarantine system does not work.

    Even if you cannot connect your device to university wireless LAN, because Windows Update and virus definition files are not up-to-date,you can still download and install Windows Update programs.
