  • Measures against Spyware

    1. What is "Spyware"?

    "Spyware" is software that gathers information about a person or organization or displays ads in a browser without user's consent.
    If spyware is installed in your computer, the following critical incidents may occur.

    Disclosure of classified informationConfidential data stored in a computer would be leaked
    Disclosure of personal informationPersonal data such as e-mail address or other contacts would be leaked
    Disclousre of password informationaccount information would be leaked by getting computer's operation logs

    The follwoing cases may indicate that your computer has spyware or other harmful software.

    ・Pop-up ads appears without accessing web site

    ・Homepage (the first page displayed when you open a browser) or search setting is changed without your notice.

    ・Unnecessary toolbar(s) appears in a browser and cannnot be removed

    ・When specific operation is executed, it take much time to execute than usual.

    ・Computer suddenly stops or freezes

    Spyware could be installed in your computer with some reasons. Spyware oftern lurks in free software(freeware) or adware(freeware with entity's ads), and is installed at the same time when you install those software.
    In that case, "Terms of Use" usually writes that the software and spyware will be installed together.
    However, most of users agree to the terms of use without reading nor understanding it, so that they can rarely notice that they are installing spyware simultaneously.

    2. Preventive actions against spyware
    To prevent from being invaded by spywares, you should be careful to download files on the internet.
    In addition to that, you should only open trusted email attached files or scan the email before opening them even if the email is from your close friends.

    Be sure to read terms of use. It is also important not to click "I accept" or "Agree" button carelessly.
    Do not click the URL in e-mail that your friend sent to you, and ask him/her whether he/she sent to you. The reason is that the sender can easily be falsified even if it indicates your friend or a person who you trust.

    3. What should I do if spyware is installed in my computer?
    Few spyware can be detected ,removed, nor segregated by antivirus software.
    Therefore, please contact IT Support Desk at first to remove the spyware.
